How to Play Magik in Marvel Tokon
Magik wins by deciding when the fight happens at close range. Her Dark Portal removes the hardest part of playing a rushdown character, getting in, so most of her game plan comes down to placing portals well and committing to the right teleport.
1. Put a Dark Portal on screen first. Press U to summon a Dark Portal; she can keep up to two out at once. Without a portal, Magik approaches like anyone else, so setting one up is the first step of every neutral exchange.
2. Teleport into Soulsword range. Press U again near a portal to teleport. The direction you hold changes where she appears: behind the opponent, above them or on the ground in front of them. Soulsword Slice is her main damage source and needs the right range, so pick the arrival point that lets it connect.
3. Punish recovery with portals. Portals work best against moves with long recovery and against predictable movement. When the opponent whiffs, teleport in and attack straight out of the teleport with Teleport Slash (U during Teleport).
4. Fire Demon Fire through a portal. A projectile sent into a Dark Portal comes out near the opponent instead of in front of Magik, which forces them to guard an angle they cannot see coming. She can also teleport in the middle of an attack while she is near a portal, which keeps her offense hard to read.
5. Commit to every approach. A half-hearted portal approach gives the opponent the read without giving you the reward. Disciplined defenders punish predictable teleports, so mix up where she arrives instead of repeating the same direction.
6. Save meter for Darkchild. Darkchild costs 100 Skill Gauge and is her biggest burst window: her Skills cost no gauge while it is active, and she can teleport near a portal even when her attack whiffs. Soul Sword Sacrifice ends Darkchild, so use it as the finisher rather than the opener.
On the Unbreakable X-Men, Magik is the scalpel: once Storm and Danger have the opponent pinned by projectiles, her portal is the exit they forgot to cover. She is also one of the Phoenix Five from the Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, which ties her to Phoenix Cyclops, the first fighter on the Marvel Tokon DLC roadmap.
